Age is not a number, but rather a measure of the effect of aging to the body. Variables such as nutrition, genetics, and environment all contribute to how your pet will be influenced by the aging process.

The purpose of screening apparently healthy pets is to establish a baseline for future comparison and to detect hidden or sub-clinical abnormalities at a time when preventative intervention will have the greatest benefit.

Laparoscopy at BBVH

We are using laparoscopy to offer patients a less painful and invasive diagnostic option. The most common indication for laparoscopy is biopsy of the liver, kidney, pancreas or masses. Other applications include evaluation of abdominal trauma, response to therapy, remove retained testicles, and look inside the bladder. Dental Care

BBVH is focusing on Dental Health Care. Dental care of dogs and cats is one of the most commonly overlooked areas of pet health care. In fact, a recent AAHA study showed that approximately two-thirds of pet owners do not provide the dental care that is recommended as essential by veterinarians. What’s more, the American Veterinary Dental Society reports that 80 percent of dogs and 70 percent of cats show signs of oral disease by age three.

Dental disease doesn’t affect just the mouth. It can lead to more serious health problems including heart, lung and kidney disease, which makes it all the more important that you provide your pets with proper dental care from the start. Puppy Parties! Next party on March 26

BBVH holds an after hours puppy party on the last Wednesday of each month. This is a chance to learn more about puppy behavior (we usually have a guest speaker who is a local dog trainer) We discuss puppy health care and preventative medicine. The attendees receive gift bags and there are refreshments for the humans. The most enjoyable part of the evening is watching the herd of puppies interact and explore the hospital. The different behaviors from the different breeds is intriguing (and predictable?) Call for more information and to r.s.v.p.
