Kitty Litter Cakes

1 pkg spice cake mix
1 pkg white cake mix
1 pkg white sandwich cookies
green food coloring
12 small Tootsie Rolls
1 box vanilla pudding mix (not instant)

Prepare cake mixes and bake according to directions. Prepare pudding mix and
chill until ready to assemble. Crumble white sandwich cookies in small
batches in blender; they tend to stick, so scrape often. Set aside all but
about 1/4 cup. To the 1/4 cup cookie crumbs, add a few drops of green food
coloring and mix using a fork.

When cakes are cooled to room temperature, crumble into a large bowl. Toss
with half the remaining cookie crumbs and the chilled pudding. Gently combine.
Use plastic wrap to line a brand new, clean cat box. Put mixture into cat box.

Put three unwrapped Tootsie Rolls in a microwave-safe dish and heat until
soft and pliable. Shape ends so they are no longer blunt, curving slightly.
Repeat with three more Tootsie Rolls and bury in mixture.

Sprinkle the other half of the cookie crumbs over top. Scatter the green
cookie crumbs lightly over top; this is supposed to look like the
chlorophyll in kitty litter. Heat remaining Toostie Rolls, three at a time,
in microwave until almost melted. Plop them on top of cake and sprinkle with
cookie crumbs.

Serve with a new, clean pooper scooper.

Kitty Litter Cookies

There are two flavors of cookies -- chocolate and gingerbread (note: choc.
looks better!). The cookies are dense and not very sweet so that they keep
their shape during baking. If you use white flour or sugar they may be
tastier but won't look like .. um, you know what.

Chocolate cookie ingredients:
1/2 cup honey
2/3 cup butter or margarine
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla or peppermint extract
2 cups whole wheat flour
1/3 cup cocoa powder
Grape Nuts cereal.

Gingerbread cookie ingredients:
1/4 cup honey
1/4 cup molasses
2/3 cup butter or margarine
1 egg
2 and 1/3 cups whole wheat flour
1/2 tsp each ginger, cinnamon
Cloves to taste
Grape Nuts cereal

Mix-ins: coconut, chocolate chips, butterscotch chips, peanut butter chips.

To Make:
Microwave the honey till it bubbles (1 minute). Add the butter and the
molasses, if any. Add the egg, mix well, then mix in all the other stuff.
Add mixins of your choice to some or all the batter.

Chill 1 hour in freezer or several in 'fridge. Roll dough logs of random
length and the diameter of catpoops. Bake at 350 degrees untill done (10-15
minutes). Serve in a disposable (or new) cat litter box on a bed of
grapenuts, with a cat litter scoop. You can obtain lovely effects by
decorating the box and scoop with melted chocolate or pudding.
